Agatha All Along : Darkest Hour / Wake Thy Power
Season 1, episode 5

Wow, okay, this was the shortest episode so far, but one that still packed a heartbreaking punch and, without giving too much away, we got to learn a little more about Agatha's background. As this was an Agatha-centric episode.

This week's episode opens with the witches still reeling from events when suddenly, familiars start appearing heralding the arrival of the Salem Seven who, somehow, have managed to find their way onto the road. A fantastical chase ensues as our witches fashion themselves brooms and try to outrun the inevitable. But, unable to outdo the Salem Seven or, indeed, the road itself, our Crew are forced back onto the road and into the next trial house.

Once again, the witches are transformed and we're in the 80s, I think, at a sleep over where, oh, look, there's a Ouija board. Knowing they only have barely 30 minutes to solve the puzzle and find a solution to escape, are ladies are on it. Only this time, it's Agatha who has to face the music in the guise of being possessed by her dead mother, Evanora. Definitely a case of Mommy Issues.

And while the other witches decide on whether they are collectively going to punish Agatha, all the while worrying about the Salem Seven catching up with them, Agatha is learning a harsh lesson (or two). Fighting her mother's possession of her, and worrying if her Sister's on the road are about to abandon her, Agatha is in a bind when, suddenly, Alice does the unthinkable.

As the witch charge with protecting them all, Alice makes the mistake of using her energy force to try and free Agatha but, as we already know from earlier episodes, it's not wise to blast Agatha with magic, as she has a habit of absorbing it. And so this week's tragedy unfolds. No, I won't tell you what ... go watch the episode. This is definitely the Darkest Hour of the show's title.

Needless to say, as a result of what happens there are a number of things that follow. One. We notice that Rio does not leave the house with everyone else. Where is Rio, and more importantly, what is she up to?

Outside, Agatha confronts an enraged Teen and delivers our third big reveal of the episodes. We've all been guessing from the start who Teen might be and why he has a sigil on him. Well, the wait is over. Agatha brushes Teen's righteous indignation side and, hooking her fingers under his chin drops the bomb, "You're so much like your mother."

Not only is Teen left open mouthed, but so are we. Because, just when we thought this one couldn't get any weirder, Jen and Lilia who have been watching all this unfold, suddenly turn frosty eyed and (Under Teen's spell maybe) upend Agatha and throw her into the roadside quicksand. But it doesn't end there. Turning to Teen, he them does the same to them, tossing them in quick succession into the sucking mud pit, to disappear without a trace, along with Agatha.

Is that it? Ha! Not so fast, as the camera pans back and closes in on Teen's face, what do we see? Something very familiar to those of us who watched Wanda Vision and anything to do with the Scarlet Witch, aka, Wanda Maximoff. Teen is seen wearing a crown very similar to that of Wanda.

So, is Teen actually Wanda's real-life son, Billy? So many reveals. So many questions. So much yet still to come. Will Agatha, Lilia, and Jen make it out of the pit alive? And what of the others?

Next week promises to be a humdinger of an episode. I just hope it delivers on it's promises.
